Uraga, in the Guji Zone of Ethiopia's Oromia Region, is located high in the mountains outside Haro Wachu. This small area is known for producing some of the country's most sought-after coffees.
The high altitude, rich volcanic soil and natural spring water provide ideal conditions for the cultivation of the Bourbon variety.
At Uraga, farmers use both washing and natural processing methods to produce coffee with exceptional brightness, balance and depth. The result is
a coffee profile that has gained recognition far beyond Ethiopia – floral, complex and distinctly Guji.
This coffee is naturally processed, a method that brings out the full character of the fruit and environment in the cup. After careful handpicking, the ripe cherries are sorted and dried on raised beds under the sun.
They are turned frequently to ensure even drying and prevent over-ripeness, which can take up to three weeks depending on conditions. The result is an intensely sweet and fruity cup with a rich blend of ripe berries, dried fruit and a syrupy mouthfeel. This method preserves the authenticity of the cherry and highlights the unique characteristics of the Uraga Highlands.
