 Tasting notes: Raspberry, pineapple, sweet

Birbirsa is a primary cooperative part of Kata Muduga Multi-purpose Farmer's Cooperative Union at Agaro town. Kata Muduga works with farmers from 5 rural districts in the Jimma zone. Birbirsa, located at the Goma district, Beshaka kebele, impressed us in 2020 with the quality of their natural coffees. This Jimma Grade 1 showcases the quality of the region beautifully with notes of raspberry and pineapple combined to a boozy kick and elegant florals. Kata Muguda represents and markets the coffees from Birbirsa following the price structure below: Export expenses: 5%, Union commission: 5%, Payment to coop members: 70%, Cooperative expenses: 30% (of which 10% are used to invest in social projects). Inka paahtimo paid for the producer 5.427 EUR/kg of green coffee (FOB price around 5.8 EUR/kg).

Hintaluokkansa parhaimpia

Paahto on tasainen, hieman tyypillistä kevytpaahtoa tummempi. Suosittelen vahvasti!

Nice!

Brewed a cup with a V60. Very strong notes of fruit and berries. Not bitter at all. Tasted almost like tea, in a good way. Brewed my second cup with a slightly finer grind and hotter, almost boiling water and it made the taste stand out a bit more. Still gonna try out some different brewing methods to find my favourite for this one. Def recommended for fans of light roasts.

Thanks Olli for a great review. I have to try this hotter water myself. We have been able to improve profile of this coffee a lot since the beginning. First we couldn't find nice notes, but now it almost beats our fanciest coffees. Producer also cupped it really high, so they knew what they were talkin about.
